UNAIDS: Internship Programme 2025
The UNAIDS Internship Programme encourages gender parity and the widest possible geographic and socioeconomic diversity among interns. The objective of the internship is to support the Gender Team with communications efforts, research, content development and knowledge management related activities.
Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the Gender Team members, the intern is expected to conduct the following key tasks and deliverables:
- Liaise with UNAIDS’ communications teams (internal and external) as appropriate, including taking part in regular meetings.
- Support the preparation of draft briefs and PowerPoint presentations on specific topics pertinent to the gender team.
- Assist with developing and enhancing UNAIDS’ social media presence concerning gender related topics, such as but not limited to the linkages between gender equality and HIV/AIDS.
- This includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, as well as UNAIDS internal social media platforms (Workplace and Yammer).
- Support the development of draft communication products, videos, factsheets and notes for communication, for webpage, social media, and internal documents (short feature stories, weekly updates, etc.)
- Provide support to the planning, preparation, documentation and dissemination of meetings and events, including liaising with IT and other teams and supporting organization of online and in-person meetings, discussions, webinars and events.
- Contribute to UNAIDS knowledge management on gender and HIV, including organisation of information, advocacy and speaking briefs, fact sheets, research, and activities to build out the ERA Community of Practice.
- Support with other tasks, as requirements arise. This may include taking notes, preparing draft minutes and correspondences, on-line research, review of reports and research articles, factchecking and preparation of full citations on request, etc.
Education Requirements:
- Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program at a recognized educational institution,
Or
- Have completed their study and have been awarded an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at a recognized educational institution within the past year.
- If candidates are recent graduates they will be expected to start the internship within 12 months of their date of graduation.
Additional Requirements:
- Candidates must be at least 20 years of age.
- Must have working knowledge (both oral and written) of the English language.
- Candidates should be holders of a valid passport/ID from a WHO/UNAIDS Member State.
- Candidates may NOT hold any other working contract with an external entity for the entire period of the internship.
Skills and Competencies:
- Experience and affinity with communication, social media and online productions.
- Comfortable interacting with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
- Knowledge of and interest in gender equality, public health, HIV/AIDS and international development.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in writing and editing communication materials is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and flexible attitude.
- Languages: Fluency in English (Oral & Written) required. Knowledge of other UN languages, such as French and/or Spanish, is an asset.
- Excellent organizational and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team. Ability to assume initiative and be self resourceful on tasks assigned.
