Corteva: Agriculture Internships (Junior Field Scientist)

As Graduate Junior Field Scientist, you will be responsible for assisting the Product Biologists/Senior Research Scientists with field trial planning, application, evaluation, lab and greenhouse trial execution and data collection and monitoring of trial success and progress. You will get exposure to EH&S requirements, training and certifications and will gain valuable experience in the regulatory requirements for product development. You will be required to fulfill administrative duties, report writing, sample handling and storage and general trial and regulatory activities.
Responsibilities:
- Chemical or biological sample handling, decanting and field/lab/greenhouse application.
- Trial planning and preparation, data collection and capturing, systems input and updates, report writing and general field sciences activities.
- Support Research Scientists with trial execution and off-site field visits (sleep out as needed)
- You will execute internal product development trials under guidance and supervision, post training and certification.
- Work across different research fields and portfolios: Crop Protection, Biologicals and Biostimulants.
- Getting exposure to GEP trial and regulatory requirements for product development and registration and support the team with gaining and maintaining GEP certification.
- General administrative and regulatory duties.
- Travel to different areas within South Africa for trial execution and evaluation, covering various bioclimatic regions as needed.
- Field station trial work will be required.
You will work with Senior Research Scientists in the office, field and lab daily and get great exposure to research and development activities as well as regulatory and other commercial activities as part of a cross-functional collaborative team in South Africa
Requirements:
- BSc, BSc Hons or MSc in Agriculture (Soil sciences, Plant Sciences, Horticulture, Plant Physiology, Agronomy or a combination of these relevant fields).
- Advantageous: Proven experience in or exposure to crop protection field trials will be advantageous.
- Driver’s license with driving experience is a critical requirement.
- Advanced MS Office skills (Power Point, Teams, Excel etc.).
- Administrative skills – attention to detail, submitting of timely reports and weekly schedule of activities, perform tasks and fulfill commitments with deadlines.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, high throughput and dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently and a commitment to excellence in delivering required results within give deadlines.
- Knowledge of the methodology for conducting field trials and collection of data and knowledge of agricultural legislation in South Africa could be beneficial.
- Language: Fluent writing, reading and speaking in English.
