SANAC: Database Developer Interns (IT, Computer Science or Information Systems Graduates)
The South African National Aids Council (SANAC) leads South Africa’s response to the national HIV and AIDS, TB & STIs epidemics. SANAC is building a dynamic team that can facilitate its effective leadership of the national response.
Purpose of the Role: To provide structured workplace exposure in database development and data management while contributing to SANAC’s data integrity, reporting capability, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will participate in the following activities under supervision:
- Support database design, development, updates, maintenance and optimisation.
- Assist with data cleaning, integrity checks, validation and consolidation from multiple sources.
- Support system documentation and version control
- Provide basic technical assistance to users and escalate where necessary.
- Assist with building and maintaining dashboards and reports (e.g. Excel, Power BI or similar tools).
- Support report development and routine data analysis.
- Troubleshoot basic database and system issues.
- Work closely with support units and programme teams to improve data workflows, reporting accuracy and system efficiency.
Requirements:
- A National Diploma or Degree in: IT, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
- South African citizen aged 18–35
- Unemployed graduate
- Basic understanding of databases and data structures (e.g. SQL, MS Access, or similar).
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Eagerness to learn, innovate, and work in a data-driven environment.
Advantageous:
- Experience with Excel; exposure to BI tools (e.g. Power BI/Tableau) will be an advantage.
