Learnership Overview

Rand Water is offering a Horticulture Learnership Programme that combines practical workplace experience with structured classroom learning. Learners will assist in maintaining horticultural sites and plant production areas, monitor plant health, prepare soil and plant crops, and help maintain tools and irrigation systems.

 

The programme also requires attending classes, participating in discussions, completing assignments, and writing assessments while maintaining a practical logbook to demonstrate knowledge and skills gained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the operation and maintenance of horticultural sites and plant production areas.
  • Monitoring plant growth and health conditions.
  • Conducting basic soil preparation and planting activities.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of tools, equipment, and irrigation systems.
  • Participating in plant propagation, watering, and fertilizing processes.
  • Attending classes as part of the learnership programme.
  • Participating in discussions and activities during classes.
  • Completing assignments and projects as required.
  • Writing assessments and practical logbook to evaluate knowledge and understanding

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must not be employed.
  • Applicants must not be enrolled with any institution for a qualification nor be registered in any Learnership Programme.
  • Applicants must not be in possession of a completed post-matric qualification (NB: Failure to disclose post-matric qualifications will result in applicant being disqualified)
  • Applicants must have a Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics/ Math Literacy and Life Science (minimum of Level 3 in ALL the subjects)
  • Applicants must be a South African citizen and be in possession of a valid SA ID.
  • Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years of age (in line with the NSDSIII).
