Gold Fields (South Deep Gold Mine): Learnership Programme 2024

South Deep Gold Mine is offering prospective applicants interested in pursuing a career in Engineering, the opportunity to enter into a formal Engineering Learnership programme.

The programme offers practical work-based training and external technical training to enable learners to adapt effectively in the world of work and to qualify as artisans at the end of their programme.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Undergoing technical training as prescribed by MQA and short courses as required by the mine during the Learnership Maintain consistent performance
• Initiating developmental discussions
• Seeking feedback
• Adhering to the company`s conditions of employment, policies and code of conduct
• Abide by all health and safety rules / regulations applicable on the mine.
• Promoting of teamwork and being an effective team member.
• Wearing all the prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) while on mine/ at the training centre
• Abide by the values of South Deep Gold Mine i.e. safety, integrity, respect, responsibility, innovation, and collaborative delivery

Selection Criteria:

To qualify as an Applicant,  you would need to:

• Be a resident of one of our Host Communities being Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein or Jachtfontein
• Successfully have passed the 4 x N3 Trade specific subjects as required by both the MQA and South Deep mine.   
• Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

The follwing Learnership Opportunities are open for applications:

Electrical - Engineering Learnership

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science
• Be in possession of a full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Electrical Trade theory and Industrial Electronics

Millwright - Engineering Learnership

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science
• Be in possession of full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Relevant Trade theory and Industrial Electronics
• Millwright learners must have 2 trade theory subjects N3 level (Electrical & Fitting) plus 3 other subjects.

Diesel Mechanic - Engineering Learnership

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science
• Be in possession of full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, Diesel Trade theory and Engineering Drawing

Rigger / Ropesman - Engineering Learnership

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science
• Be in possession of full N2 qualifications with 4 x subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science, N2 Rigging Trade theory and Engineering Drawing

Fitter (including machining) - Engineering Learnership

• Grade 12 with Maths and Science
• Be in possession of full N3 qualifications with 4 subjects i.e., Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science,  Mechano-Technology Trade theory and Engineering Drawing
