Department of Tourism Bursaries 2026

About the Bursary

The Department of Tourism is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2026 academic year.  The bursary will be awarded for the remainder of the approved study period and will be renewed annually, subject to satisfactory academic performance. Successful candidates will be required to enter into a formal contractual agreement with the Department of Tourism.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields, at Undergraduate (Diploma/ Degree) and Postgraduate (Honours/ MSc/ M Tech Masters/ PhD) level:

• ​Computer Science / Information Technology / Software Development

• ​Data Sciences / Data Analytics
• ​Development Studies

• Facility Management / Property Management and Development
• ​Forensic Auditing / Internal Auditing / Information Systems Auditing
• ​Humanities (Social Sciences)
• ​Information and Knowledge Management
• ​Industrial / Organisational Psychology
• ​Management Services / Operations Management / Work study / Organisational Development

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

• You must be a South African citizen
• You must have completed Matric
• You must be studying full-time towards a Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualification, in one of the fields listed above
• You must be studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
• You must NOT be employed by the Department of Tourism
