Internship Overview

City of Johannesburg (CoJ), through its Group Finance Department, is offering Asset Management Internship opportunities to suitably qualified and unemployed graduates. The Internships will run for a period not exceeding eighteen (18) months.

 

Position Title: Asset Management Internship

Department: Group Finance

Reference No / Circular: 004/2026

Duration: 18 Months contract

Stipend: R10 109,86 pm (Basic Salary, no benefits)

Location: 66 Jorissen Place, Johannesburg

 

Primary Function of the Role

Monitor and review the application of accounting procedures by core departments in capitalising, transferring and disposing fixed in the assets register. Monitors and enforce adherence of core departments to the application of the asset management policy to ensure that asset reporting and reconciliation of accounting transactions is accurate and properly supported. Facilitate the process of asset note preparation by ensuring that all core departments comply with submission and verification of asset requirements. Renders the supportive and advisory services to COJ core departments regarding the efficient asset controls, accounting policy and procedures application.

 

Key Responsibilties

  • Perform activities associated with monitoring the application of accounting procedures to all transactions related to fixed assets;
  • Implement control procedures and the asset management policy including GRAP requirements to ensure that all work processed in the asset register complies with all control, standards and policies;
  • Implement control stipulated in the business process documents to ensure complete recording of acquisition, the existence of assets together with conditions and status of all assets and projects acquired;
  • Analyse, review and process transactional input that forms part of the preparation of financial statements and the asset note disclosure;
  • Provide activities that in general ensure that the Asset Monitoring and Accounting operations are well coordinated;
  • Continuously maintain the relations and interaction that will ensure Assets Specialists skills are enhanced.

Required Education and Skills

  • Grade 12 (NQF level 4)
  • Degree or National Diploma in Accounting or related tertiary qualification at NQF level 7/6.
  • No experience required
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel);
  • Good communication skills;
  • Coordinating skills.
